I'm an old school user from 1986. Got into Res-Editing a lot on pre X systems. My hacking interest has grown more for X. I still use 9.2.2 for most of my work (writing, slideshows in AW5, Graphic Converter and Print2PDF.) Since my first day on X I've been trying to change it wondering sometimes, WTF were they thinking?? Well, thanks to companies like Old Jewel Software, Unsanity LLC, Turly O'Connor at FinderPop I started making my mac, MY mac. Now I've discovered your site and want to thank you for your effort at keeping up the mac spirit of independence.

It's really perplexing why Apple has not included a feature in the sound applet to turn off and/or adjust the startup sound. Maybe we should ask Apple to do so? Unfortunately, Arcana Startup Sound has not been updated to work in OS X Lion. Also, one of the posters says he needs to hear the startup sound in order to know when to boot into his multiple OS. But I am running OS X and Windows 7 Professional on my MacBook Air and I don't need to hear the startup sound in order to know when to select what OS to boot, I just hold down the option key while booting up and my OS options appear.

Alex's tips are great. I would at the following:
I learnt this once when I threw up after having only 2 drinks... I can usually handle 4-5.
8. If you know you are going to drink the next day, sleep well the night before. A healthier body can handle more poison.
9. Eat all day, not just the dinner, again the healthier you are the better. Do not drink a lot if you've missed breakfast and lunch even if you had a good dinner, trust me yourbody does not absorb food in just an hour.
10. Drink water all day as well. You'll stay hydrated.
11. Drink one drink an hour if you can help it. Thats how long it takes your body to cycle one drink through.
11. Don't go to bed if you feel like throwing up, you might choke in your sleep.

Alex, thanks for the tutorial. I've never been able to use Terminal though people often recommend things to do with it.
One problem I've always had was that they assumed I knew anything at all, like where to hit return or add spaces. I notice you left out the returns in your commands. I played around and figured out where to add some of them, but it might help future tyros if you give every shred of the process.
Thanks again,
Dv
